In grieving the death of my beloved mother this year, I had no energy or discipline to reign in my wasteful habits. I made many more purchases of plastic-wrapped, convienence items and that plastic wrapping ended up in the landfill.
But, thankfully, I have not revereted to the *previous* old ways of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Attempting going zero-waste as a process not unlike like smokers who try-and fail-several times before they are able quit for good. Addicts revert to their addiction in times of stress. If buying non-zero-waste products is my addiction, then I, too, reverted in *my* time of stress.
I look forward to 2017 with hope I can get back down to only 9 Mason jars of trash. This means being focused, organized and conscious about my purchases, as garbage does not begin inside the home, but with what you choose to bring inside in the first place.
