I am sad to report that four weeks ago today, "Lady Red Leaf", my 2013 all-electric Nissan Leaf died valiantly in a head-on while saving my boyfriend and myself from much more serious injury.
She did everything she was designed to do, crumpled exactly, airbags deploying appropriately and my boyfriend and I basically walked away with only whiplash and minor contusions.
While we are still recovering from being yanked round we are totally impressed by how well the Nissan Leaf performed in a crash. We raise a toast to the safety/crash engineers at Nissan: thank you.
We also raise a toast to all the engineers that came before that developed shoulder/lap restraints, crumple zones and airbags to begin with.
(We are soooooo in awe of airbags right now...)
As for the next car: well, a LEAF, of course! I have a new 2016 LEAF SV on order and wouldn't think of driving anything else!
(Except for my current gasoline car rental: but guess what? It is also a Nissan! - A Versa.)
R.I.P Lady Red Leaf : You Were a Fine and Noble Car Who Did Right In Te Face of Oncoming Adversity
Last but not least: to those detractors out there who insist that electric cars explode upon impact: they don't.;-)
-Gratelfully,
